In 1912, a factory fire forced production to move to Tapanila, but the passion for wallpapers and interior design never faded.
When Wihuri Oy recognized Sandudd’s unique potential, it acquired the brand in 1953 and moved production to Vantaa in 1975. This allowed Sandudd to grow rapidly into the largest wallpaper factory in the Nordics.

Finland’s first wallpaper design competition and a pioneer in the field
Sandudd made history by organizing Finland’s first wallpaper design competition, bringing the country’s leading designers into everyday Finnish homes. Bold innovations, unique patterns, and timeless collections established Sandudd as a pioneer in the field.
Today, Sandudd is one of the world’s oldest wallpaper brands still in operation.
In Toijala, tradition meets a new generation
At the same time, a strong wallpaper tradition developed in Toijala. Wallpaper production began on the site of the current Sandudd factory as early as 1927. Sandudd’s story eventually led there when Tapetti Oy acquired the brand and moved production to Toijala in 1987. The strong in-house brand, Design by Otto, was joined by the iconic Sandudd.
In 1992, Sandudd once again returned to its own name, reclaiming its place as a strong symbol of Finnish design and interiors. Although the owners have changed, the love and belief in this unique wallpaper brand has endured.

One of the world’s oldest wallpaper brands still in operation
Today, Sandudd is one of the world’s oldest wallpaper brands still in operation. Even after more than 140 years, Sandudd wallpapers continue to find their home on walls and in hearts. Every pattern, every printed meter, tells the story of true Finnish sisu, style and aesthetics that have stood the test of time.
