Choosing the right wallpaper type depends on how the space is used, the condition of the walls, and your personal preferences.
- Non-woven wallpaper: easy to install using the ‘paste the wall’ technique.
- Vinyl wallpaper: durable and washable, great for rooms that see a lot of use.
- Paper wallpaper: traditional and eco-friendly, requires care during installation.
- Paintable wallpaper: allows you to change the color later.
Yes, if the existing wallpaper is intact, firmly attached, and smooth. If it bubbles, peels, has strong embossed patterns, or color that is darker than the new one, the old wallpaper should be removed. Note! You should never wallpaper over vinyl.
You’ll always get the best results by wallpapering on a clean wall. Make sure the wall has been primed, as this will make removing the wallpaper easier in the future.
We recommend using our wallpaper calculator, which can be found on both the wallpaper collection and pattern pages. You will need the wall height and width, as well as more detailed information about the wallpaper (alignment, pattern repeat).
As a general rule:
- 1 roll (10 m × 53 cm) covers approximately 4–5 m² of wall surface.
For patterned wallpapers, you will often need 1 extra roll due to pattern matching waste.
Our wallpaper calculator can be found on both the wallpaper collection and pattern pages.
The wall should be dry, clean, smooth, and light-colored.
- Remove the old wallpaper.
- Clean off any grease and dust.
- Fill any uneven areas with spackle (the thicker the wallpaper, the better it covers any wall imperfections).
- Priming the wall in a light color prevents dark shades from showing through.
For those in a hurry, an excellent option is lining paper. It can be installed before the actual wallpaper, and it smooths out any unevenness and covers dark painted surfaces.
Wallpaper works well in dry bathroom areas.
It is not recommended for wet areas such as showers or laundry rooms, but vinyl wallpaper may be suitable for spaces where there is no direct water exposure.
- Apply the paste evenly.
- Place the wallpaper strips closely against each other, but not overlapping.
- Make sure no paste is left visible at the seams.
Make sure there are no drafts in the room, as these can cause wallpaper to dry unevenly.
- Non-woven and paper wallpapers: wipe gently with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
- Vinyl wallpaper: can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
Avoid scrubbing and strong cleaning agents.
Small bubbles may disappear as the wallpaper dries.
If a bubble remains: cut a small slit, apply some paste, and press flat.
If large areas are peeling, the cause may be insufficient paste or poor surface preparation, in which case reinstallation may be required.
Moisten the wall with warm water or use a wallpaper remover.
Non-woven wallpapers generally come off in large pieces, while paper wallpapers peel off in layers. A steamer makes it easier to remove stubborn wallpaper.
It is not recommended. Wallpapering works best at a temperature of 20–23 °C and in conditions that are not too damp. Cold spaces slow down the drying of the paste and can cause the wallpaper to peel.
